8x10 oil on canvas panel. An original oil painting of a horse in deep shadow and majestic form. I love the hard light coming from above the horse which skims his face in such a way that gives this picture incredible atmosphere and mood. The cool light accentuates the details in the structure of his face, the veins, the glint in his eye, bridle and bit. I really enjoyed capturing the subtleties of light and shadow coating his rich brown chestnut fur, the cool shadows in his nose, mouth and above his eye.
16x20 oil on canvas is an original oil painting of my character laden, leather boots. It was a great deal of fun capturing the different browns of the leather and all the little details of the boots such as the eyelets, the leather laces and stitching. I just may paint another version of this someday.
"A Slice of Lemon" 8x10 oil on canvas panel
“A Slice of Lemon” is an original oil painting of a group of beautiful lemons. A friend visited California and picked these fresh lemons from a tree in a backyard of the home she was staying at. She gave these to me and I was immediately intrigued with the lemon stems that were still attached. The stems were so delicate and lovely and the lemons were a very bright smooth yellow, unlike the lemons we have locally. I wanted to capture these on canvas before eating them.
"Birch Tree" 11x14 watercolor on Arches watercolor paper
“Birch Tree” SOLD
is a watercolor painting on watercolor paper. I purposely made the painting to be a bit whimsical in nature and explored how to achieve shadows in the bark. Later, I printed these, mounted them on panels and brushed encaustic wax over the top which gave it an amazing luminous quality pictured below.
This painting was one of three in a series of commissioned paintings of old, antique motorcycles. The series were done on black, 8x10 shadow boxes with the panels attached to the front. Each bike has a unique, illustrative - yet painterly quality to them. I love the character of this bike, although I had a tough time painting the fine details so very small.
"Indian Motorcycle" 8x10 oil on canvas panel *SOLD*
“Indian Motorcycle” is the first of a series of three commissioned paintings done of vintage, antique motorcycles. They are each mounted on a shadow box and have a unique, illustrative yet painterly quality.
"Big Sky Landscape" is a landscape done in oil on canvas reminiscent of the Nebraska expansive prairie fields.
"Nude" 16x20 on canvas
“Nude” is an original oil painting on canvas that was done in black & white. This was a study of light and shadow specifically what moved me to paint this was the glint of light on the small of her back. Working in monochrome was a fun way to express the movement and values of light and shade on her body.
